Samaritan Caregivers

The mission of Samaritan Caregivers located at 2705 S. Berkley Rd., Suite 3C is to provide free services with trained volunteers to people who are elderly or have medical problems or disabilities.

Samaritan Caregivers is just one of the organizations that First Baptist Church supports financially.   A call locally to 453-7611 will put anyone interested, in touch with the organization.  Volunteers are always needed for various chores and visitations.   For example, simple chores might be assistance with housework or yard work. Visitations needs might be to oversee daily activities, sit with an individual while caregiver attends church or other activity, be a respite visitor while spouse runs errands and keeps appointments, etc...The Missions Committee receives a current list, monthly, of volunteer needs.

This organization in June, scheduled the first support group meeting for people with low/no vision.  Everyone interested in joining a quarterly support group should pick up a flyer in the Samaritan Caregivers officer of call the above number (453-7611) to become a part of the group.  Eye Physicians, Inc. coordinated the original group.

Lillian Solt and her daughter Rebeca

Lillian is a missionary in Costa Rica.  Lillian states the 2006 was full of joy and blessings.  They have e seen many people come to trust Jesus as Lord and Savior of their lives, but most of all we have seen people grow and mature in their daily walk with Christ.  One of her favorite verses is “Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.”  Col. 3:23.

Rebeca graduated from the IB high school program and has start studying nursing at a private university in Costa Rica.

Lillian and Rebeca hosted 6 work teams that helped to work on the Santo Tomas Baptist church, Los Guido Church and CEDCAS building.  These teams are never a burden, but rather they are encouragers and help to bring Lillian many supplies.

Lillian praises the Lord for the container of medical supplies, which finally arrived.  It has been a tremendous help to the clinic.  The equipment and supplies were donated by a group in Illinois and have an approximate value of $70,000.  They also received a new gastroscopy by Olympus ($29,800).  They had estimated costs for shipping and customs to about $5,000, but it was $10,800.

Lillian travels to the rural projects to encourage and sometimes help in selling their coffee and black beans.  Lillian is working on the addition of the second floor of the House of Health.

Lillian thanks the church for our support and our prayers in her ministry.
